What Information Is Needed for a Heat Exchanger Quotation?

An accurate heat exchanger quotation depends on a clear definition of working conditions, medium information, thermal duty, pressure, material requirements and any available project documents. The more complete the input, the more precise the selection and price. This page lists the data our engineering team uses to size and quote a unit, and a buyer-friendly template you can copy and send.

Quick checklist for a heat exchanger inquiry

Use this checklist as the minimum data set when requesting a quotation. Each field maps to a parameter we use during thermal selection and mechanical design.

Medium and fluid information

The medium on each side defines almost every downstream decision. Water, glycol, oil, refrigerant or a process stream each have different thermal and physical properties. Concentration, viscosity, fouling tendency and corrosiveness all influence the plate pattern, channel velocity, fouling factor and material selection. If the medium is a mixture or process stream, share the composition or a safety datasheet so the engineering team can confirm compatibility.

Typical fluid data to include

  • Fluid name and concentration
  • Viscosity (if non-water)
  • Fouling tendency
  • Chloride content or corrosive elements

Temperature requirements

The hot-side and cold-side inlet and outlet temperatures define the heat transfer duty and temperature approach. Tight approaches (small difference between hot outlet and cold inlet) usually favour plate constructions, while larger approaches and higher temperatures may point toward shell-and-tube. Provide design temperature in addition to operating temperature so the mechanical design can be confirmed.

Flow rate and pressure

Flow rate sets velocity in the channels and directly affects heat transfer and pressure drop. Working pressure and design pressure define the gasket, frame and shell rating. Allowable pressure drop on each side is a key selection constraint — a tight pressure drop budget can change both the plate pattern and the unit size. Share the available pump head or system pressure drop limit whenever possible.

Material requirements

Stainless steel 304 and 316L are the default for clean water, glycol and food-grade services. Titanium is commonly used for seawater, brine and chloride-rich streams. Nickel alloys such as 904L, 254 SMO, Hastelloy and Inconel are selected for aggressive chemistries, concentrated acids and high-temperature corrosive service. Material recommendations should be based on the actual chemistry and operating temperature — specific code, inspection and documentation requirements should be confirmed at the inquiry stage.

Drawing, datasheet and site conditions

A drawing, datasheet or P&ID significantly accelerates selection and reduces back-and-forth. For retrofits, installation space, nozzle orientation, connection type and photos of the existing equipment help confirm the right frame size and connection layout. We work with many common plate heat exchanger models, which makes specification matching straightforward in most replacement projects.

What if I do not have complete data?

Send what you have. Jiangxing can provide a preliminary selection based on the available process conditions, then confirm any missing details before issuing the final quotation. For most enquiries, a short engineering exchange is enough to converge on a suitable specification.
